Get to know us
In 2023, we embarked on an ambitious mission to establish the Moroccan cross-border victim support system in partnership with national and international allies. Our goal is to break the silence surrounding cross-border victims and create an environment where open discussions and support are the norm - Not only in Ireland and Morocco.
THE STORY BEHIND
During a visit to Tangier in February 2019, the founder of Victim Support Morocco and the Morocco Tourist Assistance Service had a disheartening experience that revealed the shortcomings of the existing safety net. Subsequent visits further confirmed this observation. These incidents prompted the founder to reflect on their own inability to feel secure within the Moroccan system, despite their qualifications. Extensive research into security systems for future tourists led to a pivotal encounter with ITAS (Irish Tourist Assistance Service) during a business trip to Ireland in 2020. The initial groundwork for MOTAS was laid, but the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 caused a delay in the establishment of MOTAS. Finally, in March 2023, we were able to recommence our efforts and officially launch MOTAS under Victim Support Morocco.
OUR GOALS
Every year, Morocco welcomes visitors from around the world, including tourists, volunteers, students, and workers who come to experience the country's offerings. Morocco prioritizes the safety of its citizens and foreign visitors, which contributes to its reputation as a safe travel destination. MOTAS serves as an additional safety net to support visitors who unfortunately become victims or witnesses of a crime during their stay. Cross-border victims may encounter various challenges such as language barriers, isolation, cultural differences, and a lack of support systems. Unfamiliarity with local laws can leave them stranded without essential resources like medication, money, or identification. To address these traumatic situations, MOTAS acts as a legal and emotional safety net, providing crucial assistance to tourists exploring our beautiful Morocco.
OUR NEW PARTNER?
Are you part of an association working with victims or witnesses in your country? We are seeking both national and international partners to collaborate and strengthen the support system for cross-border victims in Morocco. If you would like to share your knowledge and contribute to this cause, let's connect. Click on the link below, fill out the form, and we will schedule an online meeting. The national form is in Arabic, and the international form is in English. If you need any assistance with filling out the form, please don't hesitate to contact us.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
We greatly appreciate any assistance we receive as a non-profit cross-border victim support organization. While financial support through donations, grants, and sponsorships is vital, we also welcome help in other forms. For example, if a tourist has their belongings stolen without insurance, providing support for buying new clothes or a used phone can make a significant difference in their situation. For children traveling with their parents, a small toy or candy can aid in their emotional well-being after such an incident. In summary, any support you can provide is invaluable to us.
